US Multi-Store Chain

  • Select high propensity clients that have visited one or more of hundreds of company’s stores with the goal of exploiting cross-selling and up-selling opportunities. These customers were selected based on their buying patterns and amounts of money spent.
  • Statistical models were utilized for this selection process. Each month, the whole database was scored and the most attractive customers’ addresses were selected for promotional mailings. In addition, deployed system for generating a variety of standard and ad-hoc reports to track sales of newly introduced items in various flag-ship stores.
  • Over 30 template-driven reports for selections as well as a variety of analyses; reports were made within a few seconds, as opposed to 30 minutes to a few hours; selections were done in about 1 hour; provided more opportunities for analysis & what-if analysis.

Consumers Distributing Retail Company

  • This discount retail company had hundreds of stores in US/Canada that sold a large variety of consumer items - electronics, household items, etc. Implemented solution for tracking sales, inventory in their stores; ranking suppliers &transportation partners. After introducing loyalty card – used our solution for tracking loyalty points & promoting special offers to their high-spending customers.

Loyalty Management Company (Retail and Loyalty Management)

Passengers collect air-mile points, which could be redeemed at gas stations, grocery & electronics stores. QueraBase was used to manage the data processing needed to allocate and redeem points. This data was also used by retail partners to track the purchasing behavior of customers. They then selected the high-spending customers and promoted them additional products in collaboration with the airline.

  • Developed web-based application consisting of generating interactive reports to track status of shipments, sources of delivery delays, and a variety of KPIs related to the shippers and transporter. Data was automatically extracted from the transactions system and loaded into QueraBase every night. Come morning, the users can begin to invoke its various facilities in a browser.

Direct Marketing Application (Insurance)

  • Challenge: Select millions of names each month for telemarketing of insurance products. There were multiple issues – selection based on statistical models on a consolidated database using 50+ input files coming from disparate sources; marketing logic could be different for each selection; processing on mainframe require prohibitively high data-center, sky high programming time & costs
  • QueraBase built application provided speed, flexibility, ease of programming, lack of optimization requirements, & multi-user support. System houses ~5 TB of data on a 16 node SGI computer and supports 40+ users for marketing analysis; System used for ad-hoc queries, reports, scoring, name selection, code assignment, name extraction for telemarketing & campaign analysis

Credit Cards

  • A credit card company faced the challenge of making business decisions using its database of 10+ million card members, 1.5+ billion transaction records, and merchant-level data. Existing systems required time-consuming custom programming & lengthy run times (of about 10 to 15 hours per report)
  • Developed analytical reports on spending patterns of card holders and billing patterns of merchants, extracted stratified samples for modeling, and implemented models to determine churn and to selected card members for promotions. Using QueraBase, a prototype was built in 2 weeks, followed by the first version of the marketing database in 2 months.
  • Our solution was able to create typical reports in a few minutes and incrementally update the database in a few hours at the end of the month. It was used to perform a variety of ad-hoc analysis, make reports, and extract smaller datasets for statistical modeling. The resulting models were implemented on the full database using our solution.


Spend Analytics (Vendor Audit)  -  Office supplies

  • Assurance on benefits over market price, review on price increases and validation of guaranteed savings as per contractual terms 
  • Comprehensive review of supplier data and analysis with contracts & schedules, and accounts payable. Identified anomalies related to guaranteed savings, rate variances & noncore average discounts. ~$150K cash recoveries and sustained saves of $200K through recommendations such as negotiations for noncore high value items and rebate monitoring. Review helped in improving client – supplier relationship through better reporting and controls.


Web Analytics – Online Maps

  •  360 degree analytics with focus on competitor analyses helped in increasing market share of mapping company. Daily tracking of competitors to observe drastic changes in the number of pages, quality of content, website structuring, sub-domains, rankings, traffic movements and other variables. Internal website trends were compared on YOY basis to observe dips and highs; accordingly content was redone/realigned. Past effectiveness of several campaigns were analyzed to decide on future strategies.
  • Increase in revenue by 25%; over nine template-driven reports for variety of analyses.
